Merely one week after my post about incubators and accelerators, DMZ named best in the world!

In the seven years the DMZ has been running, they have supported 317 startups that have raised $357 million and created almost 4,000 jobs. Companies including Borrowell and 500px are DMZ alums.

Another company that is also an alumnus of the DMZ is the company I helped build from the ground up – in the DMZ’s earliest of days – Viafoura.

Back in those early days, the DMZ was comprised of a mere 2 floors and mostly student projects, not real startups. As the years went on, I’ve seen the staff here grow as has the amount of real estate they occupy.

It’s quite amazing that we are indeed hitting critical mass in Toronto with accelerators and incubators and just on the heels of WeWork announcing its huge investment (and opening) in Toronto, the DMZ wins best incubator in the world.

Congrats to all my friends, current and past, from the DMZ and good luck to all the startups (current and future).
