Good news for #Canada tech – more developers and software engineers coming our way
“We have to do better for our girls,” says Flanagan. “Through access to coding in schools and workshops and by promoting female role models, we can begin to break down the persistent gender barriers that still prevent girls from actively seeking opportunities in the most important skills area for jobs of the future.”
I have always been a big proponent of coaching, teaching and leveling people up. Outside of any #developer / devops / webdev / #software engineering prowess I do have, I truly believe that my most important skill is the patience with which I #teach to (basically) anyone interested.
I am extremely happy that there is access to “coding” in schools but am also a bit disappointed at the fact that it’s less than 50%. That number still needs to go up as it’s going to continue being a skill that more and more people will require.
This isn’t to say that it should displace other courses, but someone like me, who did not come from a family with computer skills (my parents were professionals, but in other fields), had to struggle for years to learn all of this on their own.
Let’s not waste all the talented #kids who might be interested in this for another minute… And Quebec, get your butt in gear!
